Supplies:
Paper, pencils for homework, pens for checking
Spiral notebook for notes
Books need to be covered at all times.
Homework will be assigned 3 or 4 nights per week, usually not on Friday.
Students are expected to get caught up on late work on weekends.
Homework must be done in pencil and all work and steps must be shown.
Homework is probably going to determine how well your child does this
year.
Notes: Students need a spiral notebook for taking notes. Important terms and
examples will be copied by students from the book so they know
how to do new problems. These notes can be used on tests.
Students keep notebook with them.
Grades are based on test scores.
Tests for Math are given after completing two sections of a module in the book.
Students will receive extra points which are added to their test score for:
-assignments (1 point if 70% or above, 1/2 point if between 50 and 70%, 0 points if
below 50%)
- problem of the week
-occasionally extra review worksheets will be assigned and given points
like assignments
-a bonus point will be awarded for having all assignments in by the test date.
Students will have 2 points subtracted from their test score for every
assignment and worksheet not handed in.
Students have a score sheet to keep track of grades which they keep in the classroom.
Assignment book: I will stamp students' assignment books each day with a stamp which says
"MRS. L" where they write their assignment.
Any day your child has a missing or incomplete assignment I will stamp that message in the math
section of his/her assignment book. You will know that the assignment assigned the previous day
was not handed in.
When all students have completed a test, it is sent home. All work is
kept in folders in my room after it is graded. They may be taken home to
review and study, but should be brought back. Old work is stapled
with the old tests and are taken home.
Need Help? If your child is having problems here are some suggestions:
-The book has all the answers to the odd problems in the back of the book. Have students check
work.
-Make sure your child takes care on daily assignments and does his/her
best.
-The day before the test I always try to have a review session after school.
Encourage your child to stay after school.
-Students can use a calculator to check some problems. Please make sure
they don't use them to do work. This is one reason I insist that they
show all work.
-Remind your child to ask questions if they don't understand.
-Make sure your child is doing all his/her homework.
- Have your child stay after school for extra help. On the side board in my room I post the days
that I don't have meetings that would be good days for students to stay. Have them check the
board then decide which day would be best.
-Write me a note in your child's assignment book. If you put the note in
the next day's math section I should see it. I don't usually look back at
the day before.
-Call me at CMS. I'm free from 7 to 7:15. Email me.
The number is 593-7240. You can also e-mail me
-As a last resort, call me at home. My number is 599-7740.
